EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is used to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories by relying on the brain’s natural ability to heal and is designed to bring permanent healing. It is an evidence-based trauma treatment based on the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model—developed by Francine Shapiro. The AIP model utilizes our brain’s natural inclination toward health and sees many emotional and mental health issues as being the result of unprocessed or maladaptively processed experiences. By identifying and reprocessing pivotal experiences in the past, current struggles and symptoms diminish significantly.
